A Brief History of The Sanctuary Project

Kippy Tomkin saw a need in her community in rural North Carolina and chose to dedicate her life to filling it. In 2009 she founded The Sanctuary Project in Magnolia, North Carolina. Originally founded as a Veterans’ charity, The Sanctuary Project assisted veterans by acting as a liaison with The Department of Veterans Affair, helping those that had served with finding housing, financial assistance, and medical care. In 2011, The Sanctuary Project moved down the highway to its current location in Wallace. Over time, the mission of TSP has evolved into serving Duplin County as a Community Outreach Program attending to the needs of the financially disadvantaged and minority communities.

We work with the Duplin County Community Work Program as well as the Duplin County Juvenile Restitution and Community Service Program offering an opportunity for both adult and juvenile offenders a place where they can fulfill their probation by doing community service.

The Sanctuary Project is committed to helping anyone in need and to making tomorrow better for all, whether it is by providing clothing, bare essentials, food, conversation, guidance, or a place to rest one’s head when trying times require a helping hand.
